Winemaker Christopher Tracey is recreating a modern version of the Friulian (NE Italy) grape Ribolla Gialla. Channing Daughters take on this traditional wine is to leave the juice in contact with the grape skins for three weeks (a red wine technique), thus giving extra texture to the wine. And then an additional 10 months in old oak barrels to allow the wine to develop complexity.
The wine is golden in colour, a little tropical in profile but also with tons of citrus fruits, lemon and lime. Yellow peach, apple skin, yellow plums and white flowers dominate the flavours in your mouth. The skin contact gives a little grip on the sides of your mouth and it finishes with just a touch of seaside salty minerality.
