Bien De Altura Agan

£42.00

Carmelo Santana is the new kid on the block for Canary Island wine. Hailing from Gran Canaria, Bien de Altura focuses on preserving local grapes and reviving ancient abandoned vineyards.

Agan comes from a single parcel of 90-year-old vines at 1300m. The wine is a field blend of Listán Negro and Listán Prieto with a small amount of mixed indigenous white grapes. The winemaking method is traditional and natural; only 30% is destemmed by hand, and fermented in an open-top barrel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered with a small amount of SO2, organic and biodynamic (though not certified).

This is a bright and delicate red with a real sense of its age and place. Without any influence from oak means this wine is all about the vibrance and intensity of the fruit. The wine is exactly that – lifted, light, long and delicious – it is a journey of red berries, red fruits, salinity and texture. Food friendly and versatile, it is a showcase of the brilliance of Canary Islands wine.
