Arteis & Co Brut 2007 Champagne

£48.00

Intense and grand, Arteis & Co have honed the style of some of the most expensive grand marque Champagnes we know and admire, at half the price. What to expect? The Champagne is almost ‘more of a wine than a Champagne’. Across your palate it is a massively complex, layered and long journey to a mouth-watering finish. Whist powerful, it has subtleties of plums, cherries, confit fruit all still in a white Champagne, finishing to gentle brioche flavours.

“The wine is exciting in it’s combination of extremely brisk freshness and its persistence. It has a very attractive, well-balanced neat nose and length on the palate.”
17/20 – Jancis Robinson

    About the producer:

Artéis & Co is a project born from a team of vignerons who left Perrier Jouet to deliver a range of Champagnes that are truly world class. Lead Chef de Cave is Fabien alongside experienced winemaker, Jean-Philippe Diot. Their mission is to produce exceptional, artisanal Champagnes celebrating the craftsmanship and creativity of winemakers. They are based in Vinay, just next to the Premier Cru villages and source small batches from the best Grand Cru and premier vineyards managed by artisans-vignerons. The wine then goes ‘under cork’, which is to say that it has undergone its second fermentation in bottle but is yet to be disgorged and given its dosage. Sugar and SO2 levels are kept to an absolute minimum for a pure, natural expression of Champagne.

The style of Arteis is intensity, elegance and minerality, with grip and length on the palate. There is plenty of richness and weight, but these are primarily wines of finesse and vitality and the extended period on the lees brings plenty of depth and savoury complexity.

Jancis Robinson MW had a lot to say on the wines: “Arteis is a new name in champagne, applied to specially selected parcels of mature artisan Champagnes disgorged recently. This one spent 11 years on it’s lees (yeast), was made in the most glamourous vintage of the past decade and is a (relative) bargain”.
