Reviving the “Enlightenment” origins of Champagne
Behind Champagne Brimoncourt is the determination to research and follow the original ethos of champagne production: lightness, elegance, shared enjoyment and unassuming sophistication. Alexandre Cornot bought the Maison in 2008 and decided to bring modernity in line with the original ‘Enlightenment Spirit’ that, in the 18th century, fuelled sparkling wine production in the region.
When Alexandre Cornot bought Brimoncourt in 2008 he was decided to find the fragile and perfect balance between tradition and modernity to revive the house’s original style. Tired of overwhelming and imposing wines and brands he sought to recapture the spirit of elegance, sophistication and savoir-faire from which the region’s sparkling wine production was originally born. Brimoncourt champagnes have since recaptured the sense of lightness, subtlety and unpretentiousness that first seduced crowds of drinkers all over France (and then the world). A young, dedicated team of highly knowledgeable professionals, both in winemaking and operations, has been fundamental in reestablishing Brimoncourt’s personality and appeal. Everyone at Brimoncourt has the fundamental mission of fighting convenience and boredom!
“Every lasting achievement has been built gently over time. Also, the time of wine, which is the time of the land, unravels slowly…” Alexandre Cornot
All the fruit is sourced, in collaboration with growers with whom the maison has longstanding relationships, across premium locations for each variety: Cardonnay from Sézanais and the Côte des Blancs; Pinots Noir and Meunier from the Montagne de Reims and the Marne Valley. The production facilities are housed in bicentenary facilities, surrounded by gardens, in Aÿ, at the heart of the multiple plots the grapes are sourced from. Business operations, on the other hand, have their headquarters in the village of Reims in a 144 year-old iconic building built originally for this purpose and still showing all their splendour.

Interesting fact: Brimoncourt develops careful mapping and documentation of the different vineyards they source grapes from. This allows the development of a legacy record of the vineyards’ characteristics and of the quality of the grapes they yield in each vintage. It has also supported the documentation of vineyard practices and of how a sustainable approach encourages biodiversity and fruit quality.
